PANORAMA 21/08/2002

We've read our inbox

We've read our inbox.
We are flattered by the attention that magazine Panorama adressed to us with an article titled "There is mail for the BR" ("C'e' posta per le BR") and sub-titled "Terrorism-virtual attack to the heart of the state".
You can find it in the printed edition (number 34/2002) and it is online too.
We don't think this great attention to be necessary as well.
Indymedia offers a different point of view from traditional and commercial media, and it's organized in such a different way : maybe that's why our kind of information is always used as a target.

We want to thank all the people and groups for their solidarity, and we also thank who everyday contributes to make Indymedia grow; we want to give our solidarity to whom was named like us in the article.

Here is the list, we may have forgotten someone: sorry but you're so many :)

Sabra e Shatila: 20 years later

Two thousand people, palestinians syrians and lebaneses, living in the refugees camps of Sabra e Shatila, in the Beirut outbound, were victims of an actual slautering in 1982.
The massacre went on for three days, from the 16th to the 18th of september, carried by the pro-israeli militias, with the open logistic support of Tel-Aviv army, that just started its occupation of west Beirut.

Few days before the multinational forces, that should have protect the refugees camps after the departure of the palestinians fedayn, prematurely withdraw. Imposing the israeli commitment not to enter the western side o the city was in their o.n.u. mandate.

Twenty years after not only nobody payed for this crime, but the victims still didn't get buried decently. One thousand bodys disappeard. The largest collective grave, left as a wretched dusty land, is situated by the camp entrance.
The prime minister Ariel Sharon, already recognized "not directly" responsable of those tragic facts by an israeli inquiry commission, has been accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity, in front of a belgique court, by 28 persons between palestinians and lebaneses. On june 26 2002 the Brussels court rejected this act, thanks also to mysterious murders of key witnesess. Untill today nothing has changed. To the contrary the palestinians refugees's conditions are getting even more desperate.

On september 16 2002 an international delegation will gather in Beirut to remember, after 20 years, the Sabra and Chatila massacre, pushing to find a just solution to the palestinian refugees issue, in respect of their right to return.

No to the War

Like a donkey: Bush will do his war in any case.In spite of the decisions took by Un on inspections, and in any case agreed by Iraq, in spite France, Russia,China declared inappropriate any immediate military threat, and in spite a strong opposition is spreading in the United States. All around the world people are going in the streets to say no to any military action.
In Italy, saturday 5 october, there were many no war marches, proposed by European Social Forum and called "One hundred town against war".
In the past days there was a march in Rome, where 150.000 people were in the streets, and in London, where 500.000 people showed their opposition to any attak.

Repressive slags

At two days of distance from the brutal repression that put in coma a worker of the Metro hit during a strike, again, yesterday, saturday October, 26, Buenos Aires has been scene of one the most violent repression.
At 3 p.m. lot of people have gathered spontaneously, under the commissariat number six of Buenos Aires, for having news and solidarizzare with the thirty activists of Green Peace who had been arrested in the afternoon, during a pacific protest in front of the Congreso, against the agreement with Australia that fixs the income of nuclear residual in Argentine.
The first police attac, against approximately forty persons, started approximately at 7 p.m. after the refusal of people to leave the road free.
the attac ended with the arrest of seven people. In the next hour the activists of Green Peace have been freed. It was necessary, therefore, to remain to still manifest for the persons in state of stop, of wich we don't say name or number. The police has not allowed nothing of all this, neither let us approach the barracks, neither than an only group could be formed, with people that in the three hours successive had arrived in many groups giving support and solidarity. The last attac, that one thatfragmented the manifestation, has been brutal: for ten minutes the police has shot tear-gas and a squall of rubber bullets.
The pursuit ended with a shot against the window of the house of Cuba and Argentina, where the people were sheltering. Two activists of Argentine Indymedia have been attacked during this last charge, this was a promise made by police during the afternoon to one of the two that was filming the organized brutality of the police.
When the charge started the two activists were in front and the police saw them, they shut bullets close to them; one has been hit six times, and the other one two. One of the two rubber bullets hit him at the head. The facts yesterday are the last demonstration of the willing to repress and to shut up any shape of social dissent, that it is in order to manifest solidarity to arrests or in order to make one punctual information , willing clear for as from a month.

REPRESSIONE 16/11/2002

Italy: activist in jail for no global action

Its early morning, on 15 novembre: 42 people are charged for subversive association (art.270 bis c. p. Italy), and plot.
The accuse is political plot and disturbance of the government, subversive propaganda against the economic stability, damages during Napoli Global Forum and G8 summit on Genova 2001. The provision has been made in Napoli, Cosenza, Taranto, Regio Calabria, Vibo Valenzia. 11 men were brought to Trani security jail, 2 women to Latina jail.
6 people are detained in home. People were not permitted to contact a legal as soon as they were detained.
Its an hard attack to the free expression of dissent, to the effort of the creation, in the southern part of Italy, of a political web for the help of basic needs as house, water, wealth right. Jail seems the only answer to the protest for unemployement, poverty, degradation.
Eventually, main stream media are publishing the names of people involved, showing a tight correlation beetween government and media system.
