Thursday 7 October 2004, under a federal order FBI have requested to
Rackspace (a USA provider) to give them the hardware of two server
(ahimsa1 and ahimsa2) which host Indymedia Italia, decine of other nodes
of the network and many international no-profit projects.
The two servers are situated in their London branch and Rackspace has
immediatly given them to Fbi, without first warn the customers of the machines
and making know nothing about the legal bases of this delivery in britain country.

Indymedia and everybody who can imagine an alternative reality, also spoling us to
restore quickly the web sites.

Like finance markets, nowadays are also the control, the
repression of the information liberty, the preventive war without
frontiers are globalized. And last stake of freedom in danger: the possibility of express own opinions and know other ones is not
possible neither in own country, nor in an international level.

The multilateral agreement, aimed to extend emercency legislation to every
aspects of the life and the globe, found in this episode their drammatical
confirmation, conflicting with every definiction of civil rights, national
legislation and universal liberties.

Indymedia doesn't yet know the reasons of the seizure of data, and
this is not a chance, because is not needed any public vindication to
avoid the information and expression freedom.

The “Indymedia episode” is only the last in cronological order of an
worrying repression escalation that not concerns only the fantomatic
digital and comunication world, but also the dispute of grave crimes like
270 bis, ter and quarter [sic!] (sovversive association, that provide for
ten-year punishments) only for distribution of flyers which give voice to
solidariety to an arrested person, reapplying the very actual sovversive
propaganda crime, so much loved by regimes.
Other examples are the censor of Anarcotico.net, the case of Trenitalia
against Autistici/Inventati realized to hide the arranging of trasportation
of weapons for the irachi war, the seizure of materials in unnumbered
perquisition, websites closing, until arrive to the war against the free
trade of knowledge made by Urbani's act and RIAA (as like as sharing a
file is a grave action, while is not torturing a man in Turkish jails).

We think that this general attack to the freedom of every individual needs
a wide answer, neither on formal side, nor on a pratical side,
distributed in every country.
If for us making information is egual to give everyone the possibility to
publish their own point of view and their own experiences on Indymedia Italia web
site, so defend expression freedom signifies behaving, everyone with his own
modes, imagination and time, against this and all other acts
which daily rape trying to pen in it in the border of emergency logic and
international unity.

We invite everybody to exercise pression and enable themselves neither in
the net nor in the country.

Today information is subversion: one, thousand, hundreds of thousands of
subversives in every place.
